Angela was found to have advanced adenocarcinoma of the cervix and, at the time of her first MRI scan at the end of May, showed the disease had already spread to the lymph glands in the pelvis and para-aortic area. Ange then had treatment with radiotherapy and chemotherapy to control the pelvic disease for five and half weeks. She was also given Cisplatin as this has been shown to improve the chances of controlling the disease. Ange had a PET/CT scan at the end of this treatment, this confirmed the spread of the disease to the pelvis and also showed an enlarged gland in the centre of her chest(mediastinum). Scanning showed a significant improvement and reduction in the size of the cervical tumour and the lymph nodes in the pelvis. Ange then received two high-dose rate treatments to the cervix in August. Ange started a course of Radiotherapy in September. The CT scan done in September showed a blood clot in the veins of the pelvis and she started treatment with the anticoagulant Clexane. However Ange still continued to have problems with clotting which caused significant swelling in her legs. Further scanning in October showed extension of the blood clots in the main vein draining her legs and pelvis, at the same time confirming that she ha a good response to her treatment with radiotherapy. Ange was seen by a vascular surgeon who arranged for her immediate transfer to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment of the extensive clotting and then subsequently transferred her to Southampton General Hospital where some clots were removed. Despite this and starting her on clot-busting drugs, she continued to have problems and Southampton felt that, unfortunately, there was not much more they could offer her. Ange was transferred back to QA first to Intensive Therapy Unit then the Oncology Ward. Despite continuing on full treatment with the anticoagulants to deal with the clotting problem, Ange passed away on 26th November
